We at REVO believe that a properly designed part should be robust, cost efficient, user friendly, and easy to make. Learning to design such parts takes considerable knowledge, time, and experience. With that in mind, the chassis sub team strives to build this knowledge and experience in our members by studying and digitally modeling previously established designs and by collaboratively creating novel designs.
The ability to be manufactured is a key element of any product, but unfortunately there is a huge disconnect between engineers who design products and those who actually manufacture parts. The power that comes in knowing how, or even if, a part can be made is essential, even in this age of rapid prototyping. Being able to fabricate parts that you design is not only a huge plus for any employer, it is also a lifelong skill that has many benefits. REVO puts a huge emphasis on manufacturing things in-house, though we also recognize there are processes that are better done professionally. We strive to train our members in as many manufacturing methods as possible, not just to help REVO grow, but also to help our members grow.
The key to the future of engineering is innovation. REVO desires to be an innovator in all aspects, especially mechanically. For our racing kart project, implementing independent front suspension, quick-change battery pack mounts, and new biodegrable composites are just a few innovative directions we are considering. While REVO is just a team of college students, we really love electric vehicles and are driven to make existing platforms better suited for an electric future.
